Better Lives is the official charity of Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCFT). BDCFT is a provider of high quality mental health, community and learning disability services across the Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale, Craven and Wakefield communities.

Better Lives aims to enhance the care provided by BDCFT through charitable activity by improving the physical and mental wellbeing of our staff, patients, service users and their families.

How can you support Better Lives?


Better Lives runs many fundraising activities throughout the year that staff, friends, family and people from the local communities can come and get involved in. See below for the full list of activities running throughout 2022 and our activity calendar. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with Charity news and share your pictures if you have taken part in any activities. 

The 5k in May challenge takes place throughout the whole month of May and you can join in by walking, running, skipping and swimming 5k. Once completed donate £5 to Better Lives and nominate a friend to take on the challenge next. Make sure to share a picture for your 5k in May challenge! 
The Brathay Cross Bay walk is a unique 6-9 mile walk covering various terrain starting from the seaside village of Arnside. Places on this walk are limited so be sure to register your interest quickly.  
If you’re looking for a completely new challenge then the Bradford Dragon boat race could be the one for you, you can join as an individual or come together as a team to take on the challenge! 
NHS annual charity golf day, Friday 8 July 2022. Join Better Lives at Shipley Golf Club, Bingley for their first annual charity golf day. Tee times are between 9am and 1pm for a four person team, 2 from 4 Stableford. A light breakfast on arrival, followed by 18 holes and finishing with a meal in the clubhouse; cost is £200 for a team of four. If you'd like to support, hole opportunities are available from £95 We’re hosting our first charity golf day on Friday 8 July at Shipley Golf Club, Bingley. All are welcome to join with tee times between 9am and 1pm for a four person team. Included is a light breakfast on arrival followed by 18 holes and a meal in the clubhouse; cost is £200 for a team of four. 
 Want to take on an epically challenging walk this year? The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a popular walk to take on and a firm favourite for Better Lives, seasoned veterans and newcomers to this walk are welcome. 


Although we run activities throughout the year, we also like to encourage our staff, service users, friends, families and those from our communities to host their own fundraising activities or events, this can be anything from hosting your own bake sale to taking on your friends in a sponsored danceathon. 

A fantastic example of self fundraising for Better Lives is Better Lives Rocks.  Sarah Firth has set a target of £3000 to fundraise by the end of 2022 through painting Better Lives Rocks, choose any design and either keep it, gift it or hide it to be found to spread awareness of Better Lives and the work we do.

Donations of any amount are always welcome through the Better Lives JustGiving page and it’s a great page to look at for fundraising inspiration by looking at the activities that have run previously.

Better Lives is the official charity of Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust and the Trust operates as a Corporate Trustee for the Charity. The responsibility for the management and use of the funds held lies with the board of the Trust.
