CAMHS Neurodevelopmental team
Description
We are the team that assesses Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and young people.
We assess children and young people referred in before their 18th birthday. For Autism, we accept referrals for children over the age of 7. For ADHD, we would expect the child to be in a school environment to be accepted. Once you are on our assessment waiting list, you will receive a check-in call from our team every six months and if you have any other queries in the meantime you can contact CAMHSneuroenquiries@bdct.nhs.uk.
There continues to be an ongoing National shortage of some of the ADHD medications which are prescribed for children and young people. We are currently experiencing a high number of query calls from parents, carers and young people who are concerned about the shortages of ADHD medication and the length of wait for an ADHD medication assessment for children and young people. We will continue to initiate a small number of children and young people who are on our waiting lists with ADHD medication, while monitoring the medication shortages. We will update the waiting times for ADHD medication assessments on a monthly basis and this will be reflected here. The current wait time is 24 months for an ADHD medication assessment.
We look at a wide range of information from multiple settings to see if someone meets the criteria for an Autism/ADHD diagnosis.
If your child is in crisis or you need urgent mental health support, please call First Response on 0800 952 1181.
