Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating seven of its nurses who have been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title, an accolade which recognises a nurse’s dedication to giving high quality patient care.

Four nurses from the Trust’s Adult’s services received the title: Louise Parker, District Nurse; Angie Manson, Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner; and Clare Newhouse and Katie Blackburn, both operational managers for Unplanned Care.

The Children’s services at the Trust are also celebrating three of their team who were awarded the honour: Kathryn Callaghan, Lead Nurse for Workforce Resilience; and Nicola Barrett and Saiqa Kauser, both service managers.

The Queen’s Nursing Institute, the oldest nursing charity in the world, is a registered charity dedicated to improving the nursing care of people in the home and in the community.

The title of Queen’s Nurse is awarded to these nurses for demonstrating the high standard of care and leadership that the Trust is proud to deliver for local communities.

Louise Parker explained: “I received my award as the result of high care standards delivered whilst I was still in clinical practice. I am incredibly proud of this recognition and humbled by the fact that I received the award based on the face-to-face delivery of patient care. High personal standards are at the centre of everything I do and stand for, and I have been able to bring this to my team with compassionate care and compassionate leadership.”

Kathryn Callaghan added: “I feel honoured to be recognised for my work as a nurse working in the community. The title reflects the vast amount of learning that I have accumulated over the years working with families and children.”

Nurses who hold the title also benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities and a shared professional identity, allowing them to share best nursing practice and build links with colleagues across different organisations.

On receiving her award Katie said: “I have strived to uphold the values expected of a Queen’s nurse and feel incredibly honored to have received this title. I am proud of the services that we deliver in the community and am passionate about protecting staff wellbeing, and supporting and developing staff to provide outstanding care in an ever-changing environment.”

Clare added: “I am thrilled and humbled to have received the title of Queen’s Nurse. My passion is community nursing, supporting and developing staff, and developing services to provide exceptional care for our patients. I am proud to be part of a network dedicated to shaping the future of community nursing”.

The nurses were presented with the title at an award ceremony in London on Monday 28 November by Dame Elizabeth Anionwu.
