Care Trust achieves Veteran Aware accreditation

Posted: 23 June 2025

Armed Forces veterans living in Bradford District and Craven can expect high standards of mental health and community care, following the award of NHS Veteran Aware accreditation to Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The accreditation was made after the Care Trust successfully met the eight standards* which demonstrate commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. It builds on the work already undertaken by the Care Trust to achieve a successful revalidation of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver award in 2024, which covers how the Care Trust recruits and promotes veterans.

Medical Director David Sims is the Care Trust’s Armed Forces Executive Sponsor. He said: “We’re delighted to have achieved this Veteran Aware accreditation marking our commitment to supporting the region’s 62,863 veterans and their families, as well as the serving personnel of 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment in Bradford and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

“The new accreditation covers how all our services seek out and work with patients and service users who are veterans, including in care homes. The work is ongoing as we amplify our existing activity to ensure we have a strong, co-ordinated response to every individual and to continue to improve our support for the military community.”
