Staff health and well-being

We always support and encourage staff improve health and well-being. It’s important we look after our own health and well-being to deliver the best services possible to service users/patients and carers.

Flexible working

We offer flexible working to staff across our organisation to support improving work-life balance.

Staff gyms

One of the great benefits of working for us is that you can have full use of the two gyms which are situated at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) and St Luke’s Hospital for the cost of just £10.00 per month.

When you join the gym, you will benefit from a full induction and health screening, advice on training and a personal programme to follow if desired. Instructors are on hand as much as possible to give you help along the way.

Employees who become a member of the gym can also take advantage of a further bonus of sharing the BRI gym by having a family member join as your guest for just £12.00 per month (certain conditions apply and places are limited).

Additionally, we have joined up with local gyms which are offering a reduced rate to our staff:

Staff football league

If you decide to work for us you could also join one of our football leagues. A number of departments have set up a staff 5-a-side football league and apart from a basic understanding of football, no experience in necessary.

Cycle to Work Scheme

We run a Cycle to Work Scheme. You can hire a bicycle by sacrificing an amount of your salary which will be free from National Insurance and Tax contributions. It will save you money and helps you to keep fit.

Bullying and harassment

It is important that you are able to work in a safe and supportive environment and to help you we have a number of trained contact officers who will confidentially support you and talk through the options available to you should the need arise.

Help with travel

We can offer help with your travel to work through our Metrocard season ticket discount scheme.

Your well-being

We offer a range of support around well-being. This includes an occupational health service, in-house physiotherapy, exercise classes, back care workshops, discounts to gyms and fitness including access to an NHS gym, and an employee assistance programme where you can access advice and support about a range of issues. We also provide free access to a well-being website and app where you can monitor your well-being and fitness and set goals for improvement.

Bradford NHS lottery

The lottery is run throughout the local health community. Monthly prizes include cash of up to £1000, a car at Christmas, and a holiday in spring, TV’s Computers and much more.

NHS discount scheme

Pensions

The NHS Pension Scheme gives you pension benefits based on your earnings over your career. It also allows you to receive tax relief on your contributions and get a tax free lump sum, within certain limits, when you retire. Holidays

You will receive generous holiday entitlements. The amount of annual leave you receive on appointment is 27 days plus 8 Bank Holidays, rising to 29 + 8 after five years’ services and 33 + 8 after ten years’ service. Annual leave entitlements are reduced proportionally for staff who do not work full-time.
