In support of National Smile Month, May 14 – June 14, the UK’s largest and longest-running campaign to promote good oral health, Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust has been supporting people in the community to improve their oral health.
The community dental service at the Care Trust has organised events during the month aimed at engaging and informing local communities about the importance of a healthy mouth.
The team is inviting parents and children to visit Daisy Chain Children’s Centre in Keighley, Tuesday 29 May, 10.00am – 11.30am and Hirst Wood Nursery School and Children’s Centre in Shipley, Tuesday 29 May, 09.15am – 11.00am to find out more about caring for their children’s teeth. The team will also be on hand at a here comes the summer session at Crossley Hall Children’s Centre in Bradford, Thursday 31 May, 09.30am – 11.30am and a stay and play session at Farcliffe and Lilycroft Children’s Centre in Bradford, Friday 1 June, 1.00pm – 2.30pm to advise on oral health.
The national campaign aims to highlight three key messages for a healthy mouth:
- Brushing your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Cutting down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
- Visiting your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
Sharon Walker, Oral Health Improvement Lead at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are very excited to be working in partnership with children’s centres across the district during National Smile Month. This is a great opportunity for the community dental service to raise awareness of good oral health within the community and for people to find out why it is so important to our overall well- being.”
