Bradford vaccination centres appeal for more volunteers
Posted: Tuesday, 06 July 2021
Vaccination centres in Bradford are appealing for more volunteer marshals to help onsite and support the NHS drive to vaccinate the local population.
Members of the public can now apply online to volunteer at either Jacob’s Well or Bradford College Old Building that are two vaccination centres run by Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Both sites have been administering the jab since early this year contributing to the half a million doses of the vaccine have been delivered across Bradford and Craven. The sites continue to vaccinate high nu
mbers as more local people are invited to book their appointments.
Volunteer marshals are needed to support the centres by directing the public across the site and helping them to follow national guidance on social distancing, wearing face masks and santising hands.
Keeping everyone safe while onsite is a key priority and all volunteers will be issued with correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ‘walkie talkies’ to carry out the role safely. They will also be supported by the site managers throughout their shift with any queries they may have.
Catherine Jowitt, charity and volunteer lead at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are tremendously grateful for the support of those who volunteer as we continue to work
extremely hard to deliver vaccines to the local population as quickly and efficiently as possible.
“Any time people can spare to help out is very welcome. We simply cannot run the vaccination centres without you.
“All our volunteers have found this role really rewarding and have loved the opportunity to support the local NHS push to protect each other from the coronavirus.”
Some comments from volunteers include:
“When the call went out for volunteers it was something I felt I had to do as previously the NHS has helped me and my family and I wanted to give something back.
“Since I’ve been here, I’ve been part of a bigger team. It’s fantastic helping people through the process. It’s been great to see them come out with big smiles at the other end.”
“I wanted to volunteer to make a change. I would recommend it to anybody because it’s such an amazing opportunity. Everyone is really friendly, making you feel welcome so you feel like coming back.”
