At Better Lives we support activity that enhances care beyond the NHS core offer. Here are some examples of how our charitable funds are supporting service users, their families and our staff:
Providing resources to help fund our award winning arts and music festival, co-produced with service users across our inpatient wards.
- Monthly tea dances
Supporting a monthly tea dances on the Dementia Assessment Unit as part of our patient therapy programme.
- Four Seasons Café and Visitor Centre
Developing a café as a social hub for service users, visitors and staff, run by our volunteers and enhancing our visitor facilities.
- Music therapy
Offering a weekly drumming session, as part of our music therapy offer, which can help facilitate a sense of empowerment, emotional control and increased self-esteem amongst service users.
- Positive Approach to Care training
Enabling staff to attend Positive Approach to Care training, to improve staff skills so they can communicate with people who are severely cognitively impaired.
- Key installations for palliative care patients
Installing key safe boxes to access palliative patients who are often bedbound and unable to open their bedroom door to our nursing teams.
- Christmas gifts
Helping to buy individual Christmas gifts for our mental health service users and our looked after children.
- The Carers Hub
Introducing a bespoke therapeutic space for carers that provides respite space, activities and a drop in session for a cuppa and a chat.
