Care Programme Approach

The term Care Programme Approach (CPA) describes the way used to assess, plan, review, and co-ordinate the range of treatment, care and support you can expect when accessing our specialist mental health services.

The principles of the Care Programme Approach are that:

  • You are put at the centre of decisions about your care.
  • We will work closely with you to develop a plan that promotes your social inclusion and recovery.
  • Care assessment and planning sees you `in the round’, and supports you in all your roles and needs. For example, family life, creative interests and employment.
  • Self-care is promoted and supported wherever possible.
  • The needs of carers are recognised and supported.
  • Services are organised and delivered in partnership with you, your family and carers where appropriate.
  • Care planning is made possible through trust, team work and commitment. A care co-ordinator or lead professional should help to make this happen.
