Equality & Diversity

We want to make sure our services are culturally sensitive and appropriate. We also want our staff to work in an environment that is free from discrimination, harassment and unequal treatment.

A priority is to make sure that our equality agenda is fully in line with equality law.

Three documents which are key to this are our:

These documents make sure we:

  • Stamp out unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Champion opportunity and encourage good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

There are eight ‘protected characteristics’ within the Equality Act these are: age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.

Further Documents:

  • Single Equality Scheme
  • Equality Diversity & Human Rights Annual Report 2008/09
  • Within the Equality Diversity and Human Rights Strategy there are a number of pledges that outline the Trust’s committment to working with people protected by legislation. The Equality and Diversity Team held 3 consultation events in 2010 with staff, service user reps and key stakeholders to agree the pledges and agree actions to ensure we are meeting each pledge. Please click here to see the Pledge Consultation Outcomes.
  • The Trust is keen to ensure that all people, irrespective of their ability, who either work for or receive services from the Trust can achieve their full potential knowing that their dignity and respect will not be infringed in the process. The organisation takes pride in promoting an environment where everyone thrives and to this end it recognises that some people may require more support than others. The Equality Act (2010) requires public authorities to make changes to help disabled people access services and employment. These are known as ‘reasonable adjustments’ under the law.
