Older People's Mental Health Services

 

This service addresses the needs of approximately 67,661 people over the age of 65 in Bradford and Airedale and 13,949 people in the Craven District (2001 census). It seeks to address the secondary mental health of the individual, providing care within hospital and day services alongside visiting service users in their homes.

Inpatient Wards

Our inpatient wards provide intensive treatment and care for people who are acutely unwell and cannot have their needs met at home or by services such as day hospitals.

There are two wards addressing organic illness and two wards addressing functional illness

  • Ward 24 at Airedale General Hospital
  • Chellow Lodge at Lynfield Mount Hospital
  • Duchy Court at LMH
  • Airedale Centre for Mental Health

Community Mental Health Teams

Providing care coordination and multi-disciplinary care in service users homes, Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) are based in general practice settings and in community bases.

Five integrated Community Mental Health Teams, cover the following areas:

  • Craven
  • Airedale
  • North Bradford
  • South and West Bradford
  • City of Bradford

Each of the CMHTs provides the following specialist services:

  • Memory assessment and treatment
  • Psychiatric liaison
  • Primary care liaison
  • Home-based treatment

The community element of the service is fundamentally based upon a home visiting principle. The teams occupy bases at:

  • Castleberg Hospital, Giggleswick
  • Meridian House, Keighley
  • Daisy Hill House, Bradford

Consultant out-patient clinics take place at various locations across the District.

Day Services

Day services for older people are provided in:

  • Thackley
  • Harbourne
  • Woodward Court
